Tasmania has recorded another record international merchandise export figure of $4.25 billion for the 12 months to November 2021.
This is 17.3 per cent higher than the previous year to November, and is the fourth consecutive month when the annual export figures have exceeded the $4 billion mark.
A total of 64.1 per cent of Tasmania’s exports value in this period were non-ferrous metals, metallic ores and metal scraps, with the value of metallic ores and metal scraps (like iron ore, copper, zinc, tin, gold and manganese) increasing by 57.1 per cent and non-ferrous metals increasing by 27.8 per cent when compared to the previous year.
These great results are a testament to the strength of our mining and minerals sector that employs more than 5000 people, mostly in regional communities, and is a significant driver of our strong Tasmanian economy.
The ABS data also confirmed the strength of our world-class agricultural sector that is highly sought after throughout the world, with the value of dairy products up by 43.3 per cent and fruit and vegetables by 19.2 per cent over the period.
We will continue to do all we can to back these important sectors and ensure we can keep the momentum going, in line with our Tasmanian Trade Strategy that has set a target to grow the value of Tasmania’s export trade to $15 billion by 2050 by building the resilience, agility and perseverance of Tasmanian exporters.
