Anti-jobs Greens get it wrong again

Peter Gutwein,Minister for Environment, Parks and Heritage

While the Hodgman majority Liberal Government is creating jobs and economic opportunities, the anti-jobs Greens are deliberately misleading Tasmanians and undermining business confidence.

Claims in today’s GBE hearings that an Expression Of Interest process around an accommodation proposal for Maria Island didn’t appear on the Office of the Co-ordinator General’s website until November 22 is blatantly wrong.

The EOI for visitor accommodation at the Darlington convict site was first announced back in 2017 and has been in the public domain for years*.

Greens leader Cassy O’Connor either didn’t notice this until two weeks ago, or has chosen to calculatingly deceive the public to suit her party’s anti-jobs agenda.

Equally, the Government is not going to apologise for investing funds into restoring and protecting our public assets and built heritage, especially world heritage convict sites like Darlington.

Last week the Greens tried a similar scare campaign surrounding upgrades to the historic Cape Bruny Lighthouse.

The EOI process for tourism projects in national parks and reserves makes it clear that when the project reaches a lease and licence stage it becomes public and then it goes through the normal public planning and approvals process.

There was once a time when the Greens promoted tourism in the State’s parks and reserves – now they hate the thought of tourism jobs and entrepreneurial local business owners who are driving the state’s strong economy and creating jobs.
