Nearly 1500 people were breath tested during a three-day police operation in the state’s Snowy Mountains to coincide with the opening of the snow season.
Operation Snowball is a high-visibility operation targeting anti-social behaviour in and around licensed premises in Jindabyne, Cooma and the Perisher Valley.
During the operation, police conducted 1450 random breath tests and searched 10 vehicles.
Of note, about 10.50pm on Saturday (12 June 2021), officers from Monaro Police District were patrolling a licensed premise on Kosciuszko Road, Jindabyne, when a 27-year-old allegedly interfered with a police dog handler.
After failing to leave the venue, he was arrested and charged with use offensive language, two counts of resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, and excluded person fail to leave premises when required.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Cooma Local Court on Wednesday 21 July 2021.
Several premises were also issued infringement notices for licensing breaches over the three days.
Monaro Police District Commander, Superintendent John Klepczarek, said police will conduct similar operations throughout the 2021 snow season.
“Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated at any time within the district,” Supt Klepczarek said.
“Police will have a strong emphasis on ensuring everyone visiting the snow has a safe and enjoyable holiday.”
