Anzac Day 2022 on ABC

The ABC will cover Anzac Day services in all states and territories on Monday 25 April as marches return to towns and cities across the country.

Live coverage of state and territory dawn services as well as the National Dawn Service and Ceremony from Canberra will be carried across all ABC platforms. The National Ceremony will incorporate a minute’s silence and an acknowledgement of Light up the Dawn when Australians will mark a minute’s silence wherever they are – from their driveways, balconies, front gates or farm gates.

With the return of overseas ceremonies, the ABC will also be broadcasting the Gallipoli Dawn Service and Villers-Bretonneux Dawn Service.

The Director of ABC Regional & Local, Judith Whelan, said Anzac Day still carries deep meaning for Australians. “Anzac Day continues to be one of the largest and most important events the ABC covers. As we see a return to commemorations and dawn services, we will have ABC crews in all our major cities and in towns covering these events and broadcasting them to Australians wherever they may be”.

The ABC will also mark the day with special programming on ABC Television and ABC iview including the documentary The Many Days of Anzac at 5:30pm on Sunday 24 April and 2:30pm Monday 25 April. This documentary tells the story of how Australians created the Anzac traditions and rituals by which we remember those who fought.

On Monday 25 April – The Art of Remembrance, presented by Nate Byrne, looks at Australia’s involvement in conflict through the lens of visual art at 3:30pm; Air Force 100 – a highlights package from the 2021 live event commemorating 100 years of the Royal Australian Air Force at 4:00pm; and the Governor General’s Anzac Day Message at 6:55pm.
