Anzac Day grants open to support veterans and their families

  • Applications now open for Anzac Day Trust Grants to support veterans’ organisations
  • Last year, organisations benefitted from grants of between $700 and $120,000 to help  ex-service personnel and their families
  • Applications are now open in the Anzac Day Trust Grants Program for veterans’ organisations to support ex-service personnel with employment transition and mental health care.

Last year, grants of between $700 and $120,000 were allocated to Western Australian organisations to run programs providing direct support to veterans and their families.

Funding for the grants comes from the Anzac Day Trust, which was established as part of the Anzac Day Act 1960. Under the Act, part proceeds from race meetings and organised sporting events held on Anzac Day must contribute to the trust.

The funding is boosted by an annual grant from the State Government.

In 2019, Legacy WA used its grant to provide family respite and a Kids Camp in Busselton, and Working Spirit provided military-to-civil career transition assistance to veterans.

Applications for the 2020 Anzac Day Trust Grants Program will close on September 4, 2020.

As stated by Veterans Issues Minister Peter Tinley:

“The State Government is proud to support ex-service organisations and the important help they provide to veterans and their families.

“Veterans hold an important place in our community, and supporting them does not end with their homecoming or military discharge.

“The Anzac Day Trust Grants Program provides ex-service organisations with vital funds to deliver important programs, focusing on mental health and the transition to civilian employment.

“These are key issues that can make the shift to civilian life difficult for veterans, and I encourage organisations who provide these services to apply for the grants.”
