Police are appealing for information from the public following several incidents that occurred in the Riverina region overnight.
Between 1.30am and 3.20am today (Monday 14 September 2026), officers from Murrumbidgee Police District were called to a number of locations in Leeton following reports of a group of unknown people – one of whom is believed to have been armed – seen entering properties.
The locations include Cedar Street, Moreton Bay Drive, Carrington Drive, Karri Road and Malee Street.
Officers searched the properties and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
Police were told a motorbike was allegedly stolen from an address on Carrington Drive and was later found a short distance away.
About 3.50am the same day, officers attempted to stop an SUV on Malee Street, Leeton.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued through the Leeton township until police lost sight of the vehicle on Maiden Avenue.
About 5am, the SUV was located by police unattended on Anzac Street, Griffith. It was seized for forensic examination.
Inquiries revealed the SUV had allegedly been stolen from McKay Avenue, Yoogali, between 8pm on Thursday 10 September 2026 and 9am Friday 11 September 2026.
An investigation has commenced into the incidents.
As inquiries are ongoing, police are appealing for anyone with information about the group of people to come forward.
The unknown people are described as being aged in their late teens or early 20s, wearing dark clothing and face coverings.
