  • Supported by the WA Government and Royalties for Regions

The WA Government will provide up to $1.1 million in funding for regional events across WA as part of the 2024-25 Regional Events Scheme (RES).

The annual RES funding supports smaller and developing events in regional WA, with money available to attract visitors to WA’s regions and stimulate local economies.

It also provides $250,000 for the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme (RAES) to support events that showcase and celebrate Aboriginal activities and experiences through the leadership and participation of Aboriginal people.

Event holders can apply for funding amounts between $5,000 – $40,000 for events to be held between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2025, with applications open until Sunday 17 October 2023.

Last year’s scheme saw 65 regional events around the State awarded funding, including the Gibb Challenge, the Avon Descent, The York Festival, and the Fine Vines Festival, plus 8 RAES events including Iwarra Wilungga – Spring by the Sea in Geraldton, and the Karijini Experience 2023 in Karijini National Park.

As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:

“Our regions have so much to offer communities and tourists alike. This scheme provides an important boost to regional event holders, and supports a diverse calendar of events across Western Australia to become bigger and better.

“These events provide a time-specific reason for people to come and visit our State’s stunning regions and bring communities together, growing regional economies and job opportunities.

“Regional events also play such an important role in showcasing the unique destinations WA has to offer and creating vibrancy in local communities.”

As stated by Regional Development Minister Don Punch:

“Regional events are back on the calendar across all regions of Western Australia, celebrating each community’s unique culture, art and cuisine, and delighting visitors and locals.

“It doesn’t matter what you’re into, across the State, throughout the year, there’s sure to be an event that will excite and entertain the whole family.”
