Applications open for skilled and passionate workers to join TAFE

  • $57 million investment in training drives demand for increase in skilled TAFE workforce
  • Seeking people with current industry skills to help train workforce of the future
  • Applications now open for positions in metropolitan and regional areas
  • Opportunity for skilled and passionate workers to mentor the next generation
  • The McGowan Government is building a pool of talented TAFE lecturers to ensure the State is well positioned to train its future workforce.

Applications are now open for lecturers to help meet the demand for TAFE courses as a result of the McGowan Government’s recovery package for the training sector.

The recruitment drive will ensure the sector responds quickly to the greater demand for teaching staff across all five TAFE colleges, in metropolitan and regional areas. The sector is looking for skilled workers that have a genuine passion and drive to teach others.

Since the start of the year there have been almost 85,000 TAFE enrolments, an increase of more than six per cent when compared to last year. This is a result of the State Government’s Lower fees, local skills initiative introduced in January 2020.

The initiative was further expanded in July and now includes 73 high priority courses with course fees slashed by as much as 72 per cent. The heavily reduced fees have been targeted to align with the State’s immediate and emerging job opportunities. Skilled staff are also needed for the range of free short courses now available to job seekers and young people.

To support larger student numbers, TAFE colleges are seeking applicants with at least five years of industry experience to complement TAFE’s existing workforce of highly skilled staff. Applicants with the right skills will be assisted in attaining their lecturing qualifications.

Applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds, in particular skilled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as women in non-traditional trades are strongly encouraged to apply.

The expanded pool of lecturers will be used to fill casual and fixed term vacancies, enabling all TAFE colleges to respond in an agile way to changing industry demand.

Applications open today (September 18) and close on October 5, 2020.
