Appointment of Solicitor-General Sarah Kay as Senior Counsel

Elise Archer,Attorney-General

I extend my personal congratulations to Tasmania’s new Solicitor-General, Ms Sarah Kay on her appointment as Senior Counsel by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.

The appointment is in line with convention and recognises Ms Kay’s extensive experience and many years of high quality work as well as the significant contribution she has made to the legal profession.

It follows Ms Kay being appointed in December as Tasmania’s first female Solicitor-General since the office was established in 1825.

Ms Kay is also the fifth staff member from Crown Law to be appointed as Senior Counsel in the last five years. This is recognition of both the high quality of legal practitioners working within Crown Law and the important work they do for the Tasmanian community.

A ceremonial sitting will be held in the Supreme Court later this year to welcome Ms Kay as Senior Counsel, along with any other senior practitioners who may be appointed as Senior Counsel this year.
