APRA announces executive changes

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) today announces a number of executive changes within its leadership team.

Sean Carmody, the current Executive Director, Cross-Industry Insights and Data (CID), will take over from Brandon Khoo as Executive Director, Insurance, while Mr Khoo will step into the role of Executive Director, Cross-Industry Insights and Data.

In their new roles, Mr Carmody assumes responsibility for the day-to-day supervision of regulated entities within the general, life and private health insurance industries, while Mr Khoo will oversee a number of APRA’s specialist supervisory teams and drive APRA’s on-going investment in its data and analytical capabilities.

Mr Carmody and Mr Khoo will formally commence in their new roles on 4 April 2022 and both will report to APRA Deputy Chair Helen Rowell.

In addition, APRA General Counsel Warren Scott will be retiring after 13 years at APRA. From 15 April, current General Manager, Legal, and Deputy General Counsel Lucinda McCann will become APRA General Counsel.

Finally, APRA has appointed Sharon Burns as its new Chief Financial Officer. Ms Burns will take up duties in late April.

APRA Chair Wayne Byres said: “I am pleased to be able to announce each of these new appointments, which are reflective of the strong leadership team APRA is fortunate to have.”

“I would also like to acknowledge and thank Warren Scott for his very significant contribution to APRA over more than a decade,” Mr Byres said.
