ARTEXPRESS Comes To Hawkesbury Regional Gallery

Picture of artwork by Abby TeumaA favourite among art-lovers, ARTEXPRESS, returns to the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery in August 2026, celebrating the artistic creativity of students from across New South Wales and this year, featuring several students from greater Western Sydney.

ARTEXPRESS is an annual showcase of exemplary artworks from the previous year’s Higher School Certificate (HSC) that celebrates the remarkably high standards reached by the state’s Visual Arts students. The project is a collaboration between the New South Wales Department of Education and the New South Wales Education Standards Authority, and results in a series of exhibitions across public and regional galleries in NSW over an eleven-month period following the HSC examinations.

ARTEXPRESS exhibitions are curated by representatives from participating venues, including curatorial and education staff, in collaboration with ARTEXPRESS officers. Works are selected from those nominated by HSC markers as outstanding examples suitable for exhibition. Each venue displays students’ works as submitted for examination, either in full or in part, depending on available gallery space. ARTEXPRESS bodies of work may be exhibited at one or multiple galleries, with each venue presenting a unique selection of student works.

Bodies of work nominated for ARTEXPRESS include all the expressive forms from the Visual Arts syllabus: drawing, graphic design, painting, printmaking, photo media, designed objects, textiles and fibre, sculpture, documented forms, ceramics, time-based forms and collection of works.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of public programs and an immersive Maker Space featuring FREE drop-in activities for all ages. The Maker Space will also operate as a designated Quiet Space from 12pm–2pm on weekdays, supporting visitors who prefer a calmer, low-sensory environment.

ARTEXPRESS will be showing at Hawkesbury Regional Gallery from Saturday 29 August until Sunday 18 October. Opening hours Monday, Wednesday – Friday 10am – 4pm and Saturday & Sunday 10am – 3pm. Gallery entry is FREE for all ages.
