Ashurst sponsors and celebrates Australian fintech success stories of 2021

The 6th Annual Australian FinTech Awards took place on Wednesday, 8 December 2021 at 12-Micron, Sydney. Founded by Glen Frost, Ashurst has been the Event Partner for these awards since their inception in 2016.

Since that time we have witnessed the Australian fintech sector mature, grow and develop into one of the fastest fintech sectors in the world at an unprecedented speed.

With the COVID-19 pandemic accelerating digital adoption and more confidence around the ever-increasing opportunities in this sector, entrepreneurs continue to innovate and investors continue to support their ground-breaking businesses.

This event recognised and celebrated the achievements and successes of industry-leading individuals and companies in Australia across 22-award categories.

The major award of the evening sponsored by Ashurst, the FinTech Start-Up of the Year, was awarded to Slyp who offer technology to allow bank customers access to their shopping receipts through bank apps. They have created the technology to put an end to paper receipts, solving an undeniable customer, retailer, and environmental problem.

In partnerships with Australia’s leading banks, Slyp made a clean sweep at the awards winning Best FinTech Bank Collaboration; Best Social Mission FinTech; FinTech Leader of the Year; and Ashurst FinTech Start-Up of the Year.

Senator Andrew Bragg returned in his role as VIP speaker. Buoyed by recent government announcements on proposed reforms to the payments systems in Australia, the Senator stated that payments touch every aspect of our national life so it was important that Australia made its own rules and not companies based offshore. He said that there were opportunities for FinTech companies such as those in the room to help achieve this.

Congratulations to the finalists and award winners.
