Attempted carjacking at Winchelsea

Police have arrested a man following an attempted carjacking in Winchelsea this afternoon.

Investigators have been told two men were at a bus stop on Main Street about 4pm.

Police believe a car had stopped nearby to pick up a child when one of the men approached the vehicle and attempted to open its door.

The driver locked the doors of the car and drove off while the other man pulled the first man away from the vehicle.

The offender then punched the second man to the head, rendering him unconscious and allegedly stole the unconscious man’s wallet and phone.

Witnesses then held the offender until police arrived.

A 40-year-old Colac man is currently assisting police with their enquires.

Investigators are yet to speak to the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident and urge them, or anyone else who witnessed the incident to contact police.
