Queensland Rail wishes to advise local rail commuters that the Auchenflower station carpark is required to close on 10 January for nine months, to allow for major work on the multimillion-dollar station accessibility upgrade.
Queensland Rail’s Head of South East Queensland Scott Riedel said the closure was necessary to enable significant demolition and construction activity.
“As part of the Auchenflower station accessibility upgrade, the existing footbridge will be removed and replaced with a new accessible footbridge in mid-2022, along with an upgraded carpark” Mr Riedel said.
“To enable the safe demolition of the existing station bridge and to upgrade the current station park and ride, the commuter carpark will be closed between Monday 10 January and Friday 30 September 2022. During this closure, we encourage carpark users to access local on-street parking or use nearby Toowong station.”
“When it re-opens in October, along with the ongoing improvements to Auchenflower station, the upgraded carpark will provide a level surface and upgrade the two existing accessible parking spots.”
Mr Riedel thanked customers for their patience throughout the major accessibility upgrade.
“This is an incredibly important project that, once complete, will mean everyone in our community can access Auchenflower station, including people who use mobility aids, the elderly, and people travelling with prams or luggage,” he said.
“A huge amount of progress has been made already, from installation of the first new footbridge that will directly link to the Wesley Hospital precinct, to raised sections on Platforms 1, 2 and 3 for easier and safer access to trains, and progress on the new station entrances.
“We acknowledge that upgrades of this scale don’t come without some disruption, and we appreciate our customers’ and the community’s patience while we improve the station and make it accessible for all.”
The Auchenflower station upgrade is part of the State Government’s ongoing investment of more than $500 million to upgrade stations in South East Queensland, making them accessible for all.
