Australian Diamonds back in Tasmania

Nic Street, Minister for Stadia and Events

MyState Bank Arena will be packed as reigning world netball champions, the Australian Diamonds, play in Tasmania for the first time in seven years.

Minister for Sport and Recreation, and Minister for Stadia and Events, Nic Street, welcomed the Diamonds back to Tasmania following their recent world-beating performance at the netball World Cup last August.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome the Australian Diamonds Netball Team back to Tasmania,” Minister Street said.

“Their unparalleled success on the global stage is a testament to their dedication and talent, and it’s an honour for us to host them in our State.

“The Diamonds will take on the South African Proteas at MyState Bank Arena on Sunday 29 and Tuesday 31 October in match two and three of a three-part test series which began earlier this week in Cairns with an Aussie win.

“This is an incredible chance for our community to experience world-class netball right here in Tasmania.

“Through the Tasmanian Government’s partnership with Netball Australia we are committed to providing our young aspiring netballers with visible pathway opportunities.

“The community outreach program, which will be delivered by Netball Australia and Netball Tasmania, is an invaluable opportunity for young Tasmanians at all levels to connect with their sporting heroes.”

Tasmanian netball enthusiasts in the North and North-West can sign up to clinics in Launceston from 11:00 am on Saturday 28 October and Ulverstone from 3:30 pm on Wednesday 1 November.

In addition, an open training session will be held at South-East Stadium in Sorell on Saturday 28 October from 10:00 am, providing Tasmanians in the South of the State with an exclusive opportunity to see the Diamonds prepare ahead of Sunday’s game.

Tickets to see the Australian Diamonds compete in Hobart are available via Ticketek.
