Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack has welcomed Ms Catherine Scott as a Commissioner of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) and farewelled Ms Carolyn Walsh.
Mr McCormack said Ms Scott’s strong background in transportation regulation, particularly rail, would ensure the Commission continued to have the necessary depth in expertise to cover all transport modes.
“I am pleased to announce Ms Scott has been appointed to the ATSB as the new Rail Commissioner,” Mr McCormack said.
“Ms Scott has 14 years rail experience, serving eight years as member of the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator, six years as Non-executive Director at V/Line and is currently a board member of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
“I look forward to continuing to work closely with Ms Scott and the ATSB Commission to ensure Australia’s transport sector remains among the safest in the world.”
Mr McCormack thanked outgoing Rail Commissioner Carolyn Walsh for a decade of outstanding service.
“The departure of Ms Walsh as ATSB Rail Commissioner leaves some very big shoes to fill and brings to an end 10 years of outstanding service to the Bureau,” Mr McCormack said.
“As the longest-serving member Commissionership to date, Ms Walsh was appointed to the ATSB in 2010 and brought with her more than 15 years of experience in the transportation sector including senior roles within the New South Wales Government.
“During Ms Walsh’s time as Commissioner, more than 160 rail safety investigation and reports have been finalised, each of which has contributed to enhancing Australia’s rail safety.
“I wish Ms Walsh all the best with her future endeavours and thank her for her exemplary contribution to Australia’s transport safety.”
