Minister for Sport

Outgoing CEO of Paralympics Australia, Lynne Anderson, has been appointed as a member of the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Board for a three-year term.

Minister for Sport Richard Colbeck said Ms Anderson brings a wealth of experience and an impressive track record to the ASC.

“As the CEO of Paralympics Australia for the last six years, Ms Anderson has made a huge contribution to Paralympic sport in Australia,” Minister Colbeck said.

“I have no doubt she will bring the same passion and focus to drive outcomes for athletes and inclusive sport as we look ahead to a decade of green and gold excellence.”

Ms Anderson is currently a member of the Sport Integrity Australia Advisory Council.

She has extensive experience serving as Chairperson of the Canterbury Bulldogs NRL Club, and directorships of the INVICTUS Games, Gold Coast Titans NRL Club, Camp Quality, Repucom International and the 2002 Melbourne World Masters Games.

Minister Colbeck has also extended the terms of existing members, appointing Andrew Ireland as Deputy Chair and re-appointing Kurt Fearnley AO and Amanda Laing as members, all for three-year terms.

The ASC is the Australian Government agency responsible for supporting and investing in sport comprising Sport Australia, which drives the broader sport sector and the Australian Institute of Sport, which leads the high-performance sport system.

Ms Anderson said she looked forward to working in the ASC to promote both community and high-performance sport.

“I am energised by Australia’s successful Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo, which were a triumph despite the dauntingly difficult circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Ms Anderson said.

“I look forward to supporting our athletes and teams as they prepare for a decade of major international sporting events hosted in Australia, as part of the roadmap to the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic games.”

Minister Colbeck thanked outgoing Deputy Chair, Stephen Moneghetti AM, for his stewardship of the ASC over two terms, and outgoing members Jennifer Morris OAM and Pippa Downes for their passion and dedication to the ASC and the sport sector.

“Together with Josephine Sukkar AM, Chair of the ASC, I extend my gratitude to Stephen Moneghetti AM, Jennifer Morris OAM and Pippa Downes for their valued contributions,” Minister Colbeck said.

“The strong leadership and governance of the ASC has been very important, particularly over the past two year, and the organisation is well placed to grow Australian sport into the future.”
