Australian War Memorial commemorates Remembrance Day 2021

The Australian War Memorial will commemorate Remembrance Day 2021 with the National Ceremony on 11 November commencing at 10:45am in the Memorial’s Captain Reg Saunders Courtyard.

Limited tickets to the National Ceremony will be made available to the public from 10am on Friday 29 October from the Australian War Memorial website: https://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/remembrance-day

The Remembrance Day National Ceremony will be broadcast live on the ABC television and radio. The broadcast will also be live-streamed on the Memorial’s Facebook page, and will be available for viewing on ABC iView.

Memorial Director Matt Anderson said that if people are not able to secure a free ticket when bookings for the ceremony open on Friday 29 October, they are strongly encouraged to commemorate at home by watching the broadcast and to take the time to reflect on this important day.

“The Memorial invites all Australians wherever they are across the nation to commemorate with us at 11am on 11 November through the ABC broadcast or online on Remembrance Day,” Mr Anderson said.

The 2021 Remembrance Day National Ceremony features traditional elements including one minute’s silence at 11am, the laying of wreaths by invited dignitaries and a Commemorative Address.

11 November 2021 also marks the 80th anniversary of the Australian War Memorial which opened in Canberra in 1941.

On the afternoon of Remembrance Day, a closed Last Post Ceremony will take place at 4.45pm and be live-streamed on the Memorial’s Facebook and YouTube webpages.
