Australians Nominated for Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

The announcement of Ursula Dubosarsky Australian Children’s Laureate and Susanne Gervay OAM are Australian nominees, together with inaugural Australian laureate Alison Lester and Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

SCBWI illustrator and Art Director Sarah Davis created the fantastical illustration as a Memorial of Susanne Gervay’s books flying on the back of a magical elephant.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award with a prize of 5 million Swedish kronor, over A$700,000 dollars, is the largest global award for outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature. Administered by the Swedish Arts Council. The Memorial Award was was created in 2002 by the Swedish government to promote every child’s right to great stories.

Our Australian nominees are:-

Ursula Dubosarsky Australian Children’s Laureate, multi-award winning author.

Susanne Gervay OAM, Lifetime Social Justice Literature Award by International Literacy Association for her body of work.

Alison Lester Inaugural Australian Children’s Laureate Alison Lester is one of Australia’s most beloved and bestselling authors and illustrators of children’s books.

Indigenous Literacy Association invests in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote communities to provide the tools and resources they request to shape the direction of their children’s literacy future.
