Bakewell Kiss and Go hits Major Milestone

13/09/2023

Bakewell Primary School’s new carpark and kiss and go area has hit a new milestone, with construction now 75 per cent complete.

This project, worth $650,000, enhances the facilities of Darwin’s biggest government primary school.

The revamp was undertaken by the local company, Sage Civil Pty Ltd, resulting in the support of more than 20 jobs.

The development at Bakewell Primary includes a new 29 bay car park and kiss and go area between Buscall Avenue and the school, a significant improvement from the current car park and drop off zone.

The design and delivery of upgraded infrastructure will alleviate congestion during drop-off and pick-up periods and provide enhanced safety, convenience and accessibility for students and parents.

Asphalt is due to be laid in the coming weeks alongside final works, with the total project on track to be completed in October.

Quote attributable to Minister for Infrastructure Planning & Logistics, Eva Lawler:

“Every parent who has a child at Bakewell Primary understands the significant need to upgrade the schools car park and drop off infrastructure.

“Improving student safety and alleviating heavy congestion is at the heart of this project with 880 children currently enrolled at the school.

“I commend Sage Civil for the minimal disruptions they have caused the school whilst undertaking these major upgrades, and I additionally must commend the Bakewell Primary School Council for being at the forefront of this project.”

Quote attributable to Federal Member for Solomon, Luke Gosling:

“In consultation with the community, Federal Labor committed to upgrade the kiss-and-go area and add up to 30 car parks. This will improve traffic flow and most importantly student and community safety.

“The Federal Government is proud to work with the Northern Territory Government to deliver infrastructure improvements to give Territory students the safe learning environment they need and deserve.

“The funding provided is part of the $270 million School Upgrade Fund which is being rolled-out by the Albanese Government to boost school infrastructure for students.”
