Ballarat’s Heritage Weekend Begins and Ends at Home

Ballarat’s 2020 Heritage Weekend (May 30 & 31) will be taken to a worldwide audience for the first time in its 12-year history this weekend.

One of the City’s most popular annual events, Ballarat Heritage Weekend is going virtual as part of a special, one-off History at Home series.

Told through the lens of some of our event story tellers and experience makers, the six heritage-related online videos will relay all the vintage charm, mystery and intrigue that is unmistakably Ballarat – delivered in a creative and contemporary format.

Ballarat Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor says Council is committed to providing online content that inspires and connects with its audiences – allowing them to engage with each other and their favourite events – all from the comfort of their homes.

“What is also exciting about this year’s online platform is that we get to showcase our beautiful city and genuine, authentic experiences to everyone, anywhere around the globe,” he said.

“Through this experience, we have been able to produce a heritage product, documented by locals, that captures the stories of Ballarat.”

The Mayor is joining fellow Councillors in introducing the Heritage Weekend series of online videos, which take visitors on a fascinating journey from the historic Craig’s Royal Hotel for tales of intriguing guests to the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute to unearth some of Ballarat’s ‘dark history’.

From the fashionable Tweed Ride to ghostly encounters and bearded gents in their quest for glory at the annual Beard and Stache competition- this is history worth re-living and heritage worth ‘sharing’ with all your online friends.

Visit ballarat heritage weekend to immerse yourself in a bit of fun, reflection and insight into Ballarat’s rich history.
