Stage One work at the Baranduda Fields Sporting Precinct is expected to start this year after Nationals Senator for Victoria Bridget McKenzie and Wodonga Mayor Anna Speedie today confirmed project funding is starting to flow.
Senator McKenzie announced the Government’s $10 million investment to deliver the Baranduda Fields Sporting Precinct at the greenfield site last April.
“The Deed of Agreement has been signed with the council and the project is now officially underway,” Senator McKenzie said.
“This visionary community project has been on the planning table for a very, very long time and now it’s game-on. There’s no doubt this will be a game changer for our community.
“Despite the difficult and uncertain times brought about by the coronavirus pandemic the Government is delivering its local infrastructure commitments.
“We are super proud of backing the growth and development of this region and its liveability into the future.”
Mayor Speedie said the project would showcase Wodonga on the state and national sporting stage and generate new economic growth for the city.
“This is an exciting next step for what is a regionally significant, multi-generational project in our city,” Mayor Speedie said.
“Detailed design for the initial infrastructure and pavilion are complete and we are well-positioned to deliver.
“The precinct will allow the city of Wodonga to showcase sport at a local, regional and state level, and will provide economic benefits from visitation of major sporting events.”
Mayor Speedie said when finished the centre would include a soccer pavilion, grass soccer fields, an Australian Rules football oval, netball courts, car parks, access road, lighting, paths, landscaping, change rooms and amenities, as well as provision of services to the site.
Work on stage one is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
“It means the best sporting facilities between Melbourne and Sydney will be right here in Wodonga,” Senator McKenzie said.
