Rural landowners in Campaspe Shire can now purchase subsidised native seedlings through council’s Rural Tree Scheme.
Mayor, Cr Adrian Weston said this great initiative has been running since 2002 and it continues to be a popular way for local rural landowners to improve their property affordably.
“Approximately 18,000 seedlings are anticipated to be bought at the reduced rate including trees, shrubs and ground cover,” Cr Weston said.
“These indigenous species are particularly suited for our climate and soil and will not only visually improve the landscape, but also provide habitat for wildlife along with privacy and wind breaks.”
All rural zoned ratepayers within Campaspe Shire are eligible to purchase limited numbers of subsidised plants through the Scheme. Property size determines the maximum amount of plants available.
Ordered plants are collected in Autumn 2020, with a long lead time required to enable nurseries to propagate the required species. This allows landowners time to prepare the planting site to ensure high survival rates.
“Council and your local Landcare group can provide landowners with information and advice on species selection and site preparation,” Cr Weston said.
The offer is currently available until 1 November, or when the allocated funds have been spent. Order forms are available from all customer service centres, the Campaspe Shire website or can be mailed out on request.
