Beaumaris and Black Rock are leading the way in Bayside on uptake of third doses of COVID-19 vaccinations.
Between 50 and 55% of the suburbs’ eligible population have now had their third jab. In the rest of Bayside it’s around 45-50 %.
About 46 per cent of Victoria’s adult population has now had a third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
A third dose – Pfizer or Moderna – is strongly recommended to help prevent waning immunity against COVID-19.
It is now available to anyone aged 16 and over who had their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine three or more months ago.
The Australian Technical Advisory Committee on Immunisation (ATAGI) has recently approved the Pfizer vaccine for use as a third dose in individuals aged 16 to 17 years old
State-run vaccination centres have been expanding to include walk-ups for children aged 5 to 11 years and some schools have been hosting pop-up clinics led by Local Public Health Units.
Bookings at GPs and pharmacies are also available for children aged 5-11 years.
Children will receive Pfizer – one third of the dose given to people aged 12 and over.
The recommended schedule for vaccination in this age group is two doses, eight weeks apart.
