Following the heavy rain over the weekend in the catchment area, there has been a rise in the Macleay River. Kempsey Shire Council has been monitoring the river throughout the day.

The closure of Bellbrook Bridge is likely to occur this afternoon.

There is a high probability this will occur, as once the river level at Bellbrook Bridge reaches 2.9m it will be closed, and it is currently at 2.4m and rising.

As the river level gauge has only recently been replaced, Council will conduct a manual read this afternoon.

Property owners should prepare for the river level to continue to rise throughout the afternoon.

The river gauges along the Macleay River and its tributaries are all rising at present, with the following impacts:

  • There is a Minor Flood Warning at Georges Creek has risen beyond 4m. It is currently at 4.63m and rising.
  • The Macleay River at Bellbrook has risen beyond 2m. It is currently at 2.4m and rising.
  • The Macleay River at Turners Flat is rising and currently at 1.79m.

Council will continue to monitor river levels and tf the level at Turner’s Flat approaches 2.5m and appears to be continuing to rise, it is possible Council will close the crossover gates at Kinchela Creek and Belmore River.

Up-to-date river levels can be found on the Bureau of Meteorology website.
