National Parks and Wildlife Service Director Mick Pettitt said the new 18 kilometre Thredbo Valley Track Extension and Gaden Bridge over the Thredbo River, doubles the original track from Thredbo Village to Bullocks Flat (Skitube).

“The Thredbo Valley Track Extension creates a 35-kilometre experience for riders of all abilities,” Mr Pettitt said.

“The completion of the impressive new bridge over the Thredbo River the track can now be counted among Australia’s best mountain-biking experiences

“This project taps into the growing mountain bike tourism market and will drive significant growth in summer visitation to the region.

“The new extension, continues the popular Thredbo Valley Track from Bullocks Flat to Gaden Trout Hatchery where it exits the Kosciuszko National Park.

“The extension was funded through $9.8 million Regional Growth Environment and Tourism Fund which provides funding for infrastructure that supports regional economic growth, creates local employment opportunities, and drives growth in the visitor economy.

“The Thredbo Valley Track is a shared-use track running along the Thredbo River Valley.

“Part of the upgrades to the original section include a Low Mobility path, to ensure the track caters for all park visitors.

“The current project also plans further extensions of the Thredbo Valley Track from Thredbo to Dead Horse Gap, and from Gaden to Thredbo River Picnic Area, which will create more than 45 kilometres of world-class mountain bike trails.

“Further work will also see the development of associated visitor infrastructure such as day use areas, carparks and signage,” Mr Pettitt said.
