Best in Australia

Thomas Street Reserve Playground’s Changing Places facility has again been voted the best designed in Australia – this time by the public.

Last week a panel of Changing Places and sensory experts judged it the best designed and then threw the vote open for the People’s Choice Award.

The winning facility at the all-abilities playground has a light and playful design to complement the natural and open atmosphere of the playground.

It was judged on a range of criteria including overall ambience, visual appeal, use of colour, lighting and consideration of sensory sensitivity.

City of Bayside Mayor, Cr Alex del Porto said the win is welcome recognition of Council’s commitment to improving access and inclusion within Bayside.

Changing Places said it’s “fantastic to see facility owners putting such thought and care into the design of their Changing Places and supporting the initiative by being involved – congratulations City of Bayside on a great facility”

Bayside has another Changing Places accessible toilet and change facility at Wells St, Brighton.

Changing Places facilities are larger than standard accessible toilets, have an adult-sized change table and have extra features and more space to meet the needs of people with complex disabilities and their carers.

The Best Designed Changing Places in Australia, 2021 was run by advocacy group Changing Places and sponsored by consultants Equal Access.
