The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering upgraded facilities and amenities for Tasmanian recreational sea fishers as part of its First 100-Day Plan.
The first round of Better Fishing Grants provides $100,000, with maximum grants of $10,000, and aligns with the soon to be released Tasmanian Recreational Sea Fishing Strategy.
These grants support our goal to make recreational sea fishing more accessible.
They are designed to back projects which upgrade equipment and improve access to fishers of all abilities, thereby enhancing the quality of the fishing experience.
The grants are part of a $2 million program to upgrade or retrofit facilities and equipment to improve recreational sea fishing throughout the State.
Facilities may include:
- Pontoons, jetties or other structures installed or upgraded for recreational fishing;
- Fish cleaning tables, bins, tables, shelters and lighting;
- Toilets near fishing facilities; and
- Paths, steps, walkways or other access routes to fishing locations
As well as providing physical access, proposals are welcome that increase fisher satisfaction and well-being. Applications will be assessed against four criteria – demonstrated need for the project; organisational capacity to deliver the project; benefit to recreational fishers and providing value for money.
The grants are available to individuals representing recreational fishing organisations and incorporated not-for-profit organisations, including fishing clubs.
