Police Charge Man After Hoppers Crossing Sexual Assault

Detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad have charged a man following a sexual assault in Hoppers Crossing on Thursday.

The 39-year-old has been charged with two counts of rape and one count each of aggravated burglary and threat to kill.

The man from Williams Landing was taken into custody in Hoppers Crossing on Friday 24 July around 11.40am.

The charges follow an incident on Thursday 23 July, where a man, armed with a knife, allegedly forced entry to a property on Whitsunday Drive around 11.30am before sexually assaulting a woman.

Investigations are still ongoing into a second incident where a woman was outside a primary school on Langridge Street on Friday 24 July when a man allegedly followed her into the school building shortly before 7am and sexually assaulted her.

Investigators are working to establish if both incidents are linked.

Police also attended nearby Branton Road after a resident reported a possible burglary overnight from Thursday into Friday, after noticing several items disturbed.

The man has been remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 25 July.
