Big lessons learned through Little Eyes

The long-awaited debut single from Rachael Dee takes a look at the world through the eyes of children.

Little Eyes celebrates the innocence of children and the lessons they can teach us and encourages listeners to live in the moment as children do.

The collaboration with award-winning writer Matt Scullion was born at the 2018 CMAA Academy of Country Music and completed within an hour.

“I already had some key lines sorted out and I knew what the concept of the song was going to be, I just needed some musical brilliance, which Matt brought to the table,” Rachael said.

“It is simplistic, but the message is strong.”

Rachael’s young son, Connor, inspired the song and the Rockhampton singer-songwriter said anyone who was a parent, or who spent time with children could relate to the song.

“When you are in the presence of children, you realise just how magical their little minds are,” she said.

“Little Eyes is about being present, and seeing the magic of the world by showing appreciation and gratitude for the simple things in life.

“As adults I think we are overcome by so many pressures that we put on ourselves. When the most important thing should be that we are happy and fulfilled in the present moment. Children naturally live life to the fullest and they are, in so many ways, the best teachers.”

Golden Guitar winner Lachlan Bryan shot the accompanying film clip at Connor’s kindergarten in 2019, starring all of Connor’s friends and celebrating the beauty in their interactions and their play.

“All of the parents got a copy of the film clip to take away as a memory from last year,” Rachael said.

“Connor knows Little Eyes is his song and he sings along.”

Rachael aims to connect with people through her music and listeners are embracing Little Eyes every time she performs it live.

“To me, music is all about sharing and contributing. I hope that people will connect with the song and experience the heartwarming feelings I enjoy when I sing it,” she said.

Little Eyes is now available for pre-order and commercially released on March 13 through all digital retailers, with the video released on March 19.
