Blockbuster CommBank Matildas celebrate sell-out of Paris 2024™ Olympic Qualifier

Football Australia and the Victorian Government proudly announce the CommBank Matildas’ incredible achievement of their 12th consecutive home match sell-out, set for the upcoming AFC Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024TM Asian Qualifiers Round 3 (Asian Qualifiers) at the 53,343-seat multi-purpose Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on 28 February 2024.

The snapping up of all available sellable tickets* during the General Public purchase period, which commenced at 12pm yesterday, followed an incredible pre-sale period on Monday, 18 December which saw over 25,000 bought in the space of four hours.

Showcasing the soaring popularity of women’s football in Australia, the remarkable run of sell-out matches began with the emotional FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023TM Send-off Match on 14 July (also held at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne) and continued through to the seven thrilling CommBank Matildas matches during the FIFA Women’s World CupTM and the recent Asian Qualifiers held in Perth, Western Australia in October, including a sell-out at Optus Stadium.

James Johnson, CEO of Football Australia, expressed his admiration for the team’s success and that the upcoming Asian Qualifiers are a testament to the unwavering support and rapidly growing women’s football fan base.

Starting from the heartfelt send-off match in Melbourne, through to this latest sell-out in Melbourne, the Matildas have consistently captivated the hearts of the nation with almost 700,000 Australians coming together to support and celebrate this team and women’s football,” Johnson said.

“This 12th consecutive sell-out in record time reflects the strength and appeal of the CommBank Matildas’. It is clear that the team resonates deeply with fans across Australia and beyond and that is demonstrated in the way the nation turns out for these matches in stadia and on television and recognised as Australia’s most favoured national team.

“Football Australia has worked diligently over the past three years to build two strong football teams in the Subway Socceroos and CommBank Matildas. This series of sold-out matches demonstrates the significant progress in promoting women’s football and celebrating what the CommBank Matildas stand for as a force for positive change and an inspiration to millions,” Johnson concluded.

Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos said: “The support for the Matildas is off the charts and we can’t wait to see a full Marvel Stadium in February in the nation’s events capital.”

The Marvel Stadium sell-out comes on the back of a transformative 2023 for the CommBank Matildas with recognised for its extraordinary year with a swathe of accolades. Earlier this month they were awarded the prestigious Don Award for 2023 by the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, as well as the ANU Word of the Year, Marie Claire’s Champions of the Year’ and the GQ “Team of the Year”.

Football Australia extends its gratitude to the fans for their incredible support and looks forward to the support of the crowd at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on 28 February as the CommBank Matildas look to book their place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
