Body recovered after woman swept away in flood waters at Tuross, NSW

The body of a woman has been recovered following reports she had been swept away in floodwaters in the state’s Snowy Monaro Region.

Just after 2.20am today (Friday 10 December 2021), emergency services were called to Tuross Road, near Countegany Road, Tuross, following reports a vehicle with two occupants – a man and a woman – had become trapped in floodwaters.

Police were told the female occupant exited the car, before being swept away by flood waters.

Officers attached to Monaro Police District attended the scene, and together with volunteers from the NSW State Emergency Service (SES), commenced a search.

Police located the male occupant a short distance away. He did not require medical treatment.

After 7.15am, the body of a woman was located downstream and recovered by NSW SES.

She is yet to be formally identified, however, is believed to be a 37-year-old woman.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
