Bold new Brimbank Festival

The Be Bold Festival opens Friday 11 October and runs through to Saturday 19 October and will feature 15 art and fashion exhibitions and events, developed through a series of workshops and bringing professional artists together with community members of all ages.

Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Lucinda Congreve said Council was excited to be staging the Be Bold Festival in St Albans and invites the whole community to take part and make the most of having this wonderful arts event in our City.

“Council warmly welcomes the generous grant through the State Government’s Creative Suburbs program for the Be Bold Festival as it allows us to continue to celebrate innovative arts opportunities in Brimbank and to engage the local community.

“We have a really full program with plenty to see and do over the course of the eight day festival.

“Take your pick from community-led fashion shows, interactive art making sessions, installations, talks, exhibitions, workshops and live music – all available at no charge!

“The Be Bold festival promotions are starting this week with Leigh Bowery inspired roving performers, offering a visual feast of costumes and ‘onesies’ – taking it to the streets in Sunshine and St Albans,” said Cr Congreve.

The Be Bold Festival pays homage to the late Leigh Bowery, born in Sunshine in 1961 and raised locally – and considered one of the most influential arts figures in London and New York during the 80s and 90s.

Today the Bowery Theatre’s daring spirit honours its namesake and stands boldly in a colourful street in St Albans, and fittingly is the main playground for the Be Bold Festival.

Council will deliver the Be Bold Festival in partnership with community groups and artists.

The Be Bold Festival is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.
