Bookings open for free Doing Business with Council sessions

Businesses across Townsville can now book in to a free Doing Business with Council Safety Session to learn about the safety requirements needed to be a contractor to Council.

The sessions are one way Council is making it easier than ever to do business with Council, as the organisation continues towards its goal of having 90 per cent of its procurement expenditure going to local businesses by 2026.

A Council spokesperson said the sessions were a helpful tool for businesses wanting to do more work with Council in 2024.

“Council is a safety-focused organisation, placing huge importance on all of our people going home safe today and every day. This includes our staff and our contractors,” the spokesperson said.

“Local business owners and staff that are applying to do business with Council can book in for a one-on-one meeting with a Council staff member to better understand their safety obligations.

“We introduced our Doing Business with Council Safety Sessions last year and they were definitely popular, which is why we’re bringing them back again this year.

“Safety Sessions are available during standard business hours from Monday to Friday at any time of the year, just send us an email to book your spot.”

The spokesperson said Council had worked with a significant number of local contractors in the 2022/23 financial year.

“In the past financial year we inducted 271 contractors onto Council sites, which shows just how valuable working with our local business owners is to Council,” they said.

“I’m looking forward to seeing even more local businesses work with Council to help grow Townsville in 2024.”
