Boosters available for 16 and 17-year-olds

ACT Government mass vaccination clinics are now taking COVID-19 booster bookings for 16 and 17 year-olds.

Opening of bookings at ACT Government clinics follows advice this morning from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation.

There are about 9,000 ACT residents aged 16 and 17, with about 8,300 of them eligible for a booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine as of today based on the three-month interval.

ACT Minister for Health Rachel Stephen-Smith said anyone aged 16 and over who is eligible should get their booster as soon as possible.

“Getting your COVID-19 booster is one of the best things you can do to protect yourself, your family and the community from COVID-19,” Minister Stephen-Smith said.

“We know that the booster further reduces your chances of severe illness while also reducing the likelihood of you catching and passing on the highly infectious Omicron variant.

“We have appointments available from as early as today in our ACT Government clinics. I encourage those who are eligible to make a booster booking at either an ACT Government clinic or with a GP or pharmacist as soon as you can.”

Canberrans who have had COVID-19 should still get a booster to give them the best protection against further infections.

“Talk to a GP or health care provider after you have recovered from COVID-19 for advice on the best timing for vaccination,” Minister Stephen-Smith said.

Bookings for boosters at an ACT Government clinic can be made online through MyDHR or by phoning our COVID-19 vaccination booking line on 02 5124 7700 between 7am and 7pm seven days a week.
