Break-in at Sturt Police Station, South Australia

A man has been arrested following a break-in at the Sturt Police Station this morning.

About 8.15am on Saturday 14 September, a traffic officer was in the rear carpark of the police station on Sturt Road, Bedford Park when he spotted a man walking from a restricted area of the complex.

Police attempted to stop and speak to the man but he immediately ran off. The officer chased him on foot and apprehended him in nearby Bradley Grove. Urgent assistance was called after the man started to struggle with the officer but was arrested when further patrols arrived soon after.

Officers discovered a glass door at the rear of the police station had been smashed and entry gained inside. Some items were stolen from the premises but have since been recovered. There was no operational equipment or confidential documents on site or stolen.

A 27-year-old man from North Plympton has been detained under the Mental Health Act however will be charged over the break-in after an assessment.
