Bridgestone World Solar Challenge sponsorship secured for another 10 years

The Marshall Liberal Government welcomes today’s announcement from Bridgestone Corporation that the company will continue as title sponsor of the ‘Bridgestone World Solar Challenge’ (BWSC), for the next ten years until 2030.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, David Ridgway said we are thrilled that Bridgestone is extending their title sponsorship of this iconic event for another 10 years.

“The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is the foremost global innovation challenge and the largest solar event in the world.

“Bridgestone have shown incredible commitment and leadership of this event since 2013, and it’s great to see this further long-term investment,” Minister Ridgway said.

“For 32 years the BWSC has played a significant role in developing the brightest young minds from the world’s top institutions.

“I want to thank and applaud Bridgestone, for helping us continue this legacy.

“The event continues to grow from strength to strength, in 2019 we saw a record 44 teams from 21 countries take part.

“The BWSC is also a major contributor to our now $7.6 billion visitor economy,” Minister Ridgway said.

The 2019 BWSC ran from 13-20 October.

The event challenges participants to design and build some of the world’s most energy efficient vehicles in order to travel from Darwin to Adelaide – a total of 3,000km (1,860 miles).
