Bringing international students back to Tasmania

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

With Tasmania once again open to the world, our trade mission to Singapore and Vietnam is engaging with international education agents and students to raise awareness of Tasmania as a world-class education destination.

Re-engaging with these markets to position our State as a leading provider of international education and training services is vital to Tasmania’s social and economic prosperity.

The trade delegation includes 14 representatives from across Study Tasmania, the University of Tasmania, Government Education and Training International (GETI), The Friends’ School, The Hutchins School, Scotch Oakburn College and St Michael’s Collegiate.

During the trade mission, it was our pleasure to meet the Singaporean Minister for Education Mr Chan Chun Sing as well as other Government and education officials, to further strengthen our educational ties.

Workshops are also being held in Singapore, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to introduce local education agents and school counsellors to Tasmania’s international education credentials and to build long-term connections.

Importantly, Vietnamese students remain valuable advocates for both our State and education system, representing the largest number of Tasmanian international students from the ASEAN region.

Throughout the mission, Tasmanian alumni have been re-engaged to strengthen partnerships and build advocacy towards Tasmania as a place to live, work, study and do-business with.

The Trade and Investment Mission to Singapore and Vietnam forms part of a long-term market engagement plan between Tasmania and Asia, and support the aims of our Tasmanian Global Education Growth Strategy.
