Border buffer back

Common sense has prevailed on the South Australian border following Liberal National MPs raising a number of issues for cross-border communities.

South Australian Premier Steven Marshall has announced the 40km buffer zone that had previously been in place will be reinstated from Friday.

This will again allow people who live close to the border to go to school and see their regular doctor for treatment of ongoing conditions.

The reopening is testament to strong community advocacy and to the hard work of local health services to quickly control COVID-19 outbreaks on the Victorian side of the border.

As stated by State Member for South-West Coast, Roma Britnell:

“This is a common sense move from the South Australian Government. While it’s not perfect, it’s a start and it means people will be able to go about their daily business as close to normal as possible.

“I’m pleased to have been able to lobby strongly and directly to the South Australian Premier on behalf of my community for a common sense approach to this situation.

“What we’ve seen in regional areas is locals taking charge and limiting the spread of this virus in our communities as quickly as possible. I’m incredibly proud, but not surprised, by the way communities in my electorate have responded to these outbreaks.”
