Brunswick theft and assault

Police are investigating a theft and unlawful assault at a supermarket and adjoining liquor store in Brunswick late last month.

Investigators have been told a man entered a supermarket, which is part of a shopping complex on Sydney Road, about 11.30am on 30 August.

He allegedly stole food items and left but returned about an hour later.

Two staff members, a male and female, followed the man in the store asking him to leave.

The offender has walked into a liquor shop attached to the supermarket.

He has rushed at the female staff member and punched her before grabbing a bottle of wine and leaving the shop.

The victim suffered minor facial injuries.

The man is believed to be aged in his late 30’s to early 40s, medium height, solid build, with a distinctive neck tattoo.

He was wearing an over-sized black hooded jacket, black calf-length pants and a baseball cap worn back-to-front.

Police have released images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.

Anyone who recognises the man or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppervic.com.au.
