Budget 2022: $44 Million to Support Growth in Greater Darwin

Fast tracking land release for future population growth is a key part of the Territory Labor Government’s strategy to create more jobs and grow a $40 billion economy by 2030.

As part of Budget 2022, the Territory Government is investing $186 million to accelerate land development in the Greater Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs regions.

Development of 700 lots at Holtze and 4,600 lots Kowandi are critical for facilitating economic development in the region and form a key part of the Territory Government’s investment in infrastructure including:

$43 million over two years for the design and construction of enabling infrastructure for the release Greater Darwin’s new development front in Holtze$1 million for planning and design to expand this development into the Commonwealth’s Kowandi site.

To fast-track the release of Holtze, the Territory Government has awarded three period contracts to local companies, including:

an engineering design contract to local firms Byrne Consultants to undertake concept and detailed design of enabling infrastructure such as new water and sewer mains, and a new sewerage pump stationa survey contract to local firm Fyfe Pty Ltd to undertake engineering and land surveys to support the design of infrastructurea geotechnical engineering contract to local consultant Douglas Partners to undertake geotechnical investigations to inform infrastructure designs.

The infrastructure being designed also has the potential to support the development of a much larger development footprint within the focus area referred to as ‘Greater Holtze’. Greater Holtze includes Holtze North and Howard Springs North, which are subject to the outcome of the Holtze to Elizabeth River Subregional Land-use Plan.
