Builder For World-Class School Facilities In Shepparton

  • Minister for Education

Shepparton families are one step closer to having the state-of-the-art secondary school facilities they deserve, with the Andrews Labor Government appointing a builder to commence work on the new Greater Shepparton Secondary College.

Minister for Education James Merlino today announced Hansen Yuncken Pty Ltd has been appointed to begin early works on the new school. The school, to be built on the site of the former Shepparton High School, will offer students broader subject choices, new learning and pathway opportunities, and better educational support in world-class facilities.

Builder Hansen Yuncken has a significant local presence, having had a base in Shepparton since 1925, with the project to provide construction jobs to local contractors.

The designs, by architects Gray Puksand, support the school’s focus on having the facilities of a big school, while maintaining the feel of a smaller school environment. The architects worked closely with students, teachers and the wider community to gain their input for the design of the new school.

Demolition works on the current site will commence in February 2020.

The Labor Government has committed $21.5 million to make the long-term Shepparton Education Plan – including the new Greater Shepparton Secondary College – a reality.

This funding ensures that progress will continue on the Labor Government’s long-term education plan for the Greater Shepparton area. This will support the design of the new secondary school and site preparation works, along with the provision of a new Integrated Early Learning Centre at Mooroopna Primary School.

The Labor Government has invested $6.1 billion to deliver new primary and secondary schools, upgrade more than 1,400 existing ones, and create more than 7,500 construction jobs across the state.

As noted by Minister for Education James Merlino

“This exciting appointment means Greater Shepparton families are a step closer to getting the great local secondary school facilities their kids need to thrive.”

“We know that Victoria’s population is booming, which is why we’re building 100 new schools and upgrading schools to meet the needs of our growing communities.”

As noted by Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp

“The new school has been designed from the ground up to best suit the needs of every future Shepparton student.”
