Building a faster future for Bruny ferries

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

Bruny Island residents and visitors are set to benefit from multi-million dollar upgrades to landside ferry infrastructure as part of the Tasmanian majority Liberal Government’s comprehensive plan to improve transport to Bruny.

The new landside infrastructure will support an improved ferry user experience by providing much better traffic management for vehicles and the ferries themselves. We will see more orderly and safer boarding, with amenity and safety benefits for local residents and other road users.

The significant upgrades will include the doubling of the number of ramps at both Kettering and Roberts Point, which will remove the current single ramp dependency at each landing, as well as improvements to vehicle access and safety.

The improved infrastructure will allow for faster turnarounds, less chance of waiting for another vessel to unload, and reduced queuing.

The Government will continue to consult with the Bruny Island Ferry Reference Group and the local Bruny Island community as we progress the infrastructure designs and upgrades to ensure they meet the needs of the community.
