The City is investing almost $2 million in its playgrounds, with fresh play equipment now installed in 14 parks around the Gold Coast, along with new shade sails.
Mayor Tom Tate today joined Divisional Councillor Pauline Young for the re-opening of Deodar Park in Burleigh Waters, which boasts a new $290,000 playground, including new shade sails.
“We know everybody loves our parks and these projects are about making them even better. We’re always striving to ensure they meet community needs, which means purchasing the most up-to-date equipment,” he said.
Cr Young said the upgrade included a pendulum swing and multi-level towers connected via tunnels and rope bridges with slides, climbing walls and a track ride.
“This park is now a wonderful community asset for everyone – we’ve got the new playground and the existing BMX track for kids, as well as new seating and shade trees for all ages,” she said.
Playground designer Urban Play said the playground was bursting with rich play value for children of various ages and abilities and commended the City for creating such a great space for the community.
Mayor Tate said the $780,000 roll out of shade sails across 16 city parks was due for completion at the end of February.
The replacement playgrounds, valued at a total of $1.06 million, are located at:

- Ned Twohill Equestrian Park, Southport
- Varsity Lakes Wetlands Reserve, Varsity Lakes
- McKenzie Park, Nerang
- Kuring Gai Park, Robina
- Lauradale Crescent Park, Ormeau
- Winfield Road Parklands, Ormeau
- Joe Doniger Park, North Kirra
- Robina Common, Robina
- Glennon Park at Chisholm Road and Recreation Drive, Nerang.
