Building Brighter Futures: Job Creating New Palmerston School Takes Shape

The Territory Labor Governmentis delivering for Palmerston families, with the $12.6 million first stage ofZuccoli Primary School on track to open its doors to students in Term 1, 2020.

Construction is well advancedon stage one of the project, which includes a pre-school with capacity for upto 88 students and eight primary school classrooms with capacity for more than200 students.

Today also marks a major milestone,with applications opening for the position of the inaugural Zuccoli PrimarySchool principal.

The Territory Labor Government last year fast-trackedconstruction of the school by two years, to ease classroom pressure inPalmerston, the NTs fastest growing region.

Stage one has supported thejobs of 120 local construction workers. The tender for stage two is currentlyopen and it is expected to support a further 200 jobs.

Stage two includes an administration building, an extraclassroom building, a library and a multipurpose hall, alongside facilities tobe shared with the adjoining Mother Teresa Catholic School, including a sciencelab, a home economics centre and a new sports oval.

The tender for stage two will close in early June and worksare expected to commence in October.

Zuccoli Primary School is expected to be fully operationalby Term 1, 2021, and will cater for more than 430 primary school students and88 pre-schoolers.

The principal will have avital role in driving the strategic direction of the school, which willeventually cater to more than 500 students and significantly ease enrolmentpressures on surrounding schools.

Unlike the CLP, who ripped$135 million from our schools, the Territory Labor Government will alwaysinvest in education, because it is not just the right thing to do, it is thesmart thing to do.
