Building skills to build economy

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Education and Training

Registered training organisations are being encouraged to apply for funding through the latest round of the Tasmanian Government’s Apprentice and Trainee Training Fund (User Choice), with applications now open.

The fund provides subsidies through grants to significantly reduce the cost of providing quality training and assessment for nationally recognised qualifications.

As we recover from the impact of COVID-19, there has never been a more important time to create a pipeline of skilled workers across our key sectors and we recognise that there are Tasmanians looking for new jobs.

Having the right skills will help Tasmanian job seekers find the career that is right for them, especially in industries that are in need of more workers.

Supported training may incorporate on-the-job, in classroom or online learning, or a combination of these depending on the qualification.

An apprenticeship or traineeship gives a young person the best start to their working life as well as allowing existing workers to upskill in their existing roles or to retrain in a new field.

In 2021, $20 million has been allocated for dedicated vocational training for apprentices and trainees to build a more highly skilled workforce around the state, with more than 400 nationally-recognised qualifications eligible for funding across a wide range of industries.

To apply for the 2021 Apprentice and Trainee Training Fund (User Choice) go to www.skills.tas.gov.au

**RTOs must be able to demonstrate that they meet eligibility requirements and application and grant conditions of the Fund and that they will act in accordance to the Department of State Growth (Skills Tasmania) Agreement for all Programs.
