Built by locals, for locals using local materials

Talbot’s Market Reserve has never looked better thanks to funding from both Federal and State Governments.

The Victorian Government’s Outdoor Eating and Entertainment Package has delivered seven new seating structures and tree landscaping.

Construction has been carried out by TRC Building and Construction – a Talbot based business. The timber used in the seating structures is local timber from Talbot Timbers.

Last year, thanks to the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, three new shade umbrellas were installed and a new oven was installed at the Community Hub-London House.

The replacement of the existing Town Hall toilets is next to come in the project.

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor said Market Square was now a place for the community to use and enjoy.

“What has been created is a wonderful community space that can be used all year round – especially on market days.

“It’s particularly rewarding when the project has been created by local trades using local materials. The quality of the work is superb and will come into its own on Market Day. Plenty of causal seating with chairs and tables to follow when funding permits.

“Thanks to both the Federal and State Governments for the investment and congratulations to the Talbot Action Inc who has led this project and advocated for the funding.”

Talbot Action Inc representative Patty Brown said “we look forward to our community and visitors to Talbot benefiting from this newly created delightful space for all to enjoy—family picnics and gatherings, special occasions and events.

“Special thank you to Amanda Wedgwood, project manager and Anna Phillips, designer.”
