Bulky waste collection coming February

Bulky waste collections will begin this financial year, with dates yet to be confirmed.

Orange City Council’s Environmental Sustainability Committee chair, Cr Stephen Nugent said there had been calls from the community to reinstate the annual bulky waste collection after it was discontinued a few years ago.

“We’re looking at organising the collection event so that more materials, such as steel and waste refrigerators containing gas, can be collected separately for recycling,” Cr Nugent said.

The latest rates notice includes an annual charge for the Bulky Waste collection.

It was re-introduced in the latest budget after strong support for the change in a community survey, conducted as part of the budget community consultation.

Each rates notice was be charged $11.35 for an annual bulky-waste collection to be provided in this financial year in February.

Cr Nugent said the across-the-board charge shared the cost across the whole community.

“There’ll be lots of publicity in the lead-up to the event, with much more detail about how it will all work,” he said.

“It’s important for residents to remember, that now is not the time to be leaving waste in front of your house.

There are many forms of waste that can be taken to the Resource Recovery Centre for free. If the results of your Spring cleaning are still in working order, think about taking them to Recycling Centre.”
