Bundanon’s new state of art facilities open

The world-class Art Museum and Bridge for Creative Learning allow Bundanon to extend its exceptional art experiences, including exhibition seasons and creative learning programs.

The Art Museum will host exhibitions of works by established and emerging artists. The inaugural exhibition ‘From impulse to action’ features ink drawings by renowned Australian artist Arthur Boyd which have been used as a starting point for 12 new commissioned pieces by Australian contemporary artists.

The exhibition celebrates the Boyd family’s ties to Bundanon and the site’s continuing importance to Australia’s creative production. The Art Museum also includes a storage facility that houses and protects Bundanon’s extensive art collection.

The Bridge is a new space for creative learning and accommodation. Creative experience weekends are already proving very popular, with places booked up for the next few months.

As well as expanding the cultural offering of Bundanon, these new additions incorporate radical design solutions to ensure sustainability and respond to the natural features of the property. For example, the design of the Bridge incorporates the natural flow of water across the site, which meant it remained safe and secure during the recent flooding events on the Shoalhaven River.

The Art Museum and storage are subterranean, protecting precious works from diverse climate conditions, including fire and flood. The facilities are sustainably designed, with on-site electricity generation, rainwater harvesting, waste water treatment and re-use, and reduced energy consumption.

This $34 million facilities upgrade, jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments and by private supporters, will ensure Bundanon is able to preserve and nurture the creative arts in Australia for many years to come.

The Bundanon properties were gifted to the Australian people in 1993 by Arthur and Yvonne Boyd, and are managed by Bundanon Trust on behalf of the Australian Government.
