The NSW Government welcomes the High Court of Australia’s ruling on Uber Australia’s payment of payroll tax and will carefully consider the full judgment.
This is an important ruling which confirms the NSW Chief Commissioner of State Revenue’s interpretation of the law and reflects our Minns Labor Government’s commitment to upholding the integrity of our tax system.
Payroll tax is a key part of the state’s tax base. Only around 5% of NSW businesses pay payroll tax – the majority of which comes from big businesses – and it helps fund essential services that families and households rely on.
Local businesses pay their fair share. Uber should pay their fair share too.
